European Heritage Days in Estonia from September 6th to 15th 2002
Theme: Cultural Landscapes
Cultural environments are an important part of people's identity and historic awareness. The European Heritage Day 2002 in Estonia concentrate on how human activites have affected landscapes throughout history and aim at explaining the richness and uniqueness of Estonian landscape in the context of the diversity of Europe.
Activities include pedagogical work with schoolchildren on the landscape (Kaali meteorite crater field on the island Saaremaa, ancient settlement sites and hillforts in Puka, South Estonia, Rebala Heritage Protection Area in Jõelähtme, North Estonia).
Open monuments during EHD:
Rebala Visitors' Centre; local museums in the coutryside, manor houses in Rapla county
